Spring 2001

(New 2003 Guide)

March 25, 2001: Exotic Beauties & Old Familiars

Howe Wildflower Garden at Cheekwood is home not only to native Tennessee wildflowers, but some stunning imports from Europe and Asia, such as one of my favorites--"Snowflakes" (native to central and southern Europe).

Among the flowers beginning to bloom here are Virginia Bluebells, Bloodroot, Grape Hyacinths, Celandine Poppy, Trout Lily, and Corydalis.

Plants emerging, but not yet in bloom, include Dutchman' Breeches, Wild Columbine, Twinleaf, Jacob's Ladder, Shooting Star, and several varieties of Trillium.

Don't miss the Wildflower Fair at Cheekwood coming up this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
