March 5, 2000: Edwin Warner Park, Nashville, TN. The early spring weather has pushed the blooms of the season's first wildflowers ahead of schedule. The upper slopes of the Harpeth Woods Trails are showing Spring Beauties, Cut-Leaf Toothwort, Yellow Corydalis, Early Saxifrage, and Henbit. I passed a wildflower enthusiast who said she had seen Harbinger of Spring (but I couldn't locate it myself on the trail). Foliage of Dutchman's Breeches are out on the Natchez Trace section of the trail and Vinca Periwinkle is blooming (near the Devon Farm). On the upper slopes, Trillium Sessile is popping up, although the blooms are not opened yet. Naturalized daffodils are up along the stream running beside the Natchez Trace section of the trail. March 7, 2000: Percy Warner Park, Nashville, TN. Mossy Ridge Trail. In addition to the flowers mentioned above, this trail has Rue Anemone and False Rue Anemone. I found one stalk of Wild Blue Phlox blooming. March 8, 2000: Radnor Lake, Nashville, TN. Spring Beauties and Cut-Leaf Toothwort, along with False Rue Anemone are blooming here. Plus, I discovered a couple of patches of Mayapple just starting--the leaves look like odd little umbrellas.
