Spring is Coming
|
|

Winter isn't whipped yet, but the light lingers
longer each day and we're beginning to get a sense that a
corner has been turned. Spring is in sight. Which means something
particular for amateur botanists: Middle Tennessee is one
of the best places in the country for wildflower
hikes and the season is almost upon us for the numerous botanical
excursions sponsored by Middle Tennessee parks and universities.
One of the earliest hikes is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 29
at 1:30 p.m. at the incomparable Shakerag Hollow on the University
of the South's campus in Sewanee. Spring ephemerals you might
see this early include bloodroot, harbinger-of-spring, and
hepatica. Offered by the Sewanee Herbarium, more information
on this hike is available by calling 931-598-1798.
