The Howe Wildflower Garden has a special Trillium collection, donated by John C. Lambert of Arkansas. Lambert acquired Trillium from across the country and the garden here boasts more than 50 species and varieties of Trillium.

About the name: "tri" means "three" and Trilliums have three petals, three sepals, and three leaflets. Sometimes genetic mutation will result in a Trillium with four or five leaflets or multiple petals.

According to the information provided by the Howe Wildflower Garden, it takes 7 to 10 years for a Trillium to bloom. Propagation from seed is thus a slow process. Populations of Trillium have been decimated or destroyed by those who collect these plants from the wild.
