The Parthenon in Snow: Feb 7. 2002
The Parthenon is the world's only full-scale replica of the ancient temple in Greece. It contains an art gallery and a 40-foot statue of Athena. Constructed as part of Tennessee's 1897 Centennial Exposition, it has been undergoing extensive renovations and repairs over the last several years. With fanfare and fireworks, the end of the facelift was celebrated officially on New Year's Eve, Dec. 31, 2001.
Located in Centennial Park, the Parthenon is the centerpiece for a city greenspace that offers runners, walkers, rollerbladers, cyclists, ducks, and, in general, any creature that wants a respite from the car fumes on West End Avenue a place to come.
